?More Details: While we are all about people moving more, it is important to note that while copious amounts of light-to-moderate intensity activities does us good, more than 4-5 hours per week of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity (heart-pounding, sweat-enducing stuff) can put people, particularly those over the age of 45, at an increased risk of adverse cardiovascular events. It seems that you can not do too much light and moderate activity – in this case more is always better! But the same appears not be true with vigorous activity (although this probably depends on training history etc). ?Again looking at traditional life-styles (such as those of the hunter gatherer population mentioned in our ā€˜C’ post) gives us a good indication of how we should be moving. Per week, on average, this population does about 26 hrs of light activity, 13 hrs of moderate activity and just over 2 hrs of vigorous-intensity activity per week. In this population there was no evidence of any cardiovascular disease.
