Making drizzle castles! What does this photo show? That both my kids love the beach? They seem to have endless patience for certain things? Those things are true for sure, but it also tells me a bit about how they move or don’t and their strengths and ranges of motion. My youngest can work in a squat for ages and chooses it as a rest position. My eldest not so much anymore; he swims a lot (as well as sits at school) and he has developed much more range of motion in the front of his ankle (see how he sits on his feet in plantarflexion) and the dorsiflexion required for squatting is not as available. My challenge for the New Year is to find more opportunities for him to move in a way that supports the ranges of motion and strength required for a comfy squat.
